Today is a Sabbath so full I'm already feeling anxious. But now I take a breath - let it out - and let go of the need to do everything. I will choose my three top priorities, and let go of the rest.
Agenda:
1. Choose top priorities
2. Read "Everyday Simplicity"
1. Choose top priorities:
When I calm down, I realize that my top priority is to be relaxed and free when my daughter and grandsons come (whenever that happens), and to set everything else aside to take a fun birthday ride around the neighborhood, perhaps stop to get treats together, and take photos.
If the visit extends, I will begin my second priority, which is to be in my front garden, weeding out grass and buttercup from my native beds, and collecting photos of nature images.
And when they leave I will evaluate my time, and prioritize my third priority, which is to work at some drawing of nature motifs.
2. Read "Everyday Simplicity":
I bought myself this little book, by Robert J. Wicks (2000), as a birthday treat. The subtitle is: A Practical Guide to Spiritual Growth.
Chapter one is Where Do I Begin? He list three starting places-
- Nourish a spiritual attitude, so that every part of my life deepens me, and creates meaning within.
- Find a way to pray, so I can be intimate with my God and be renewed and refreshed.
- Be a compassionate presence, in a way that feeds and enlivens me, and allows me to share myself without feeling depleted or resentful.
He uses a Sanskrit word visvas which is a kind of deep faith that allows one to "breathe easily, have trust, be free from fear."
This is what I hope for today!
