Spiritual simplicity and order is my practice of the week, and it's all about attention to Truth, Love and Creation. When I make time for these in my life, other things fall away.
Spiritual order then refers to this state of balanced alignment of my internal and external lives with a divine purpose, creating harmony and peace rather than chaos or excess.
Agenda:
1. Awareness
2. Divestment
3. Enjoyment
1. Awareness:
The first step is awareness - putting love, truth, and creation in my heart. I ask, is this stuff serving truth, love, or creation? No? Then why have it or do it?
Some ways to practice awareness:
- Being mindful of the amount of stuff I still have in boxes that someone else will have to deal with when I'm dead. That is not loving.
- Being mindful of the excesses I purchase that strains or oppresses the natural world, or some human being. (Part of awareness is education: I need to continue to study about the impacts of some of the things I want to buy.)
- Being mindful of the time I waste that could be used in the pursuit of truth, love, and my Divine purpose.
2. Divestment:
Once I'm mindful, I need a plan for how to divest myself of the stuff and activities that distract me. I'm already pretty well focused in on the priority activities in my life. This month I'm working on my stuff in storage. I'm evaluating and clearing everything I no longer need.
I also need to look at habits that distract me from Truth and Love: Indulgent eating and phone games at inappropriate times...
3. Enjoyment:
Then I need to remember to enjoy the simple pleasures that bring me close to God: Time in the garden, time with my grandsons, walks with my partner, delicious simple foods prepared well, fixing something that is broken, painting in a clear calm space, reading a good book.
