Earth Care Community

I need community and collaboration,
and everything I'm reading this week is reinforcing that reminder. I have felt alone for a while now, mostly because of my own isolation and limitations, and inability to organize a community to work with. Now that I have a group to act with, I need to rise to the occasion!

Agenda:
1. Read "The Earth Keeper's Handbook"
2. Proaction and reciprocity plans

New Year's Day

Today is the first day of a new year
in my part of the world. I celebrate many beginnings throughout my year, but January 1 has emotional importance because it’s the New Year of my childhood.

January gets its name from Janus, the two-faced Roman God of gates and doorways; it's a month to look back with reflection and forward with hope. I stand at the doorway of this coming year with my mind open and curious, without fear or judgment, and with hope for the gifts that the year will deliver.

As I stand here, I remember that not all gifts are rosy. I thank the Creator for the shadows and mysteries, and potent gifts of sadness. When I live in the reality of the moment more than in my hopes and expectations, I can receive the riches that are hidden within my most challenging experiences - the gifts of compassion, self-awareness, creativity, wisdom, patience, love, strength of character, and integrity.

Agenda for today:
1. Set the tone for the New Year
2. Kwanzaa principle
3. Read "It's a Meaningful Life"
4. Gnothi Seauton
5.
Review the Divine Laws
6. First bird

Sabbath for Joy

Today is my sabbath,
a day to step out of the fray, and regroup. My theme this month is joy and self-expression, and I'm going to spend some time today reading, and making a plan.

My perfect sabbath is a celebration, a holiday. I keep it holy with my attitude: I don't rush, complain, or worry. Everything I do has a flavor of peace. I schedule some work, but it's work I find fulfilling, or uplifting. Simple is a great word to describe my ideal activities for the sabbath: Simple tasks, simple foods, and an undemanding schedule.

Agenda
1. Word #7 - Beloved Community
2. A gratitude nap
3. Joy walk

2nd Day of Christmas and Kwanzaa

This is the second day of the twelve-day festal tide - a sacred, festive season. In some old traditions, this whole season is seen as a sort of Sabbath: Prepare ahead of time and then spend the Twelve Days doing as little work as possible; rest, reflect, and find peace within.

This is also the start of Kwanzaa, a seven-day African-American cultural holiday - an American holiday inspired by African traditions. The word kwanza is Swahili for “first”, as in "first fruits", because in some parts of Africa this is the season for first fruits harvest festivals. Kwanzaa is a time of thanksgiving for the earth, but also a time to honor ancestors, and a time for African-Americans to celebrate their heritage and learn about African traditions and values.

Agenda:
1. Review the Divine Laws
2. Christmas retreat
3. Kwanzaa principles
4. Love reading
5. Love goals for 2023
6. Prayer Candle Ceremony
7. End of Year work list
8. Christmas pudding

The Blessed Community

"The relationship between a human and God, between a human and Life, is often called a 'covenant' relationship, which is contrasted with 'transactional' relationships. A covenant relationship centers on acceptance and celebration – be here now. Transactional relationships center on fairness and kindness – do unto others. The quest to bring these two types of relationships into close alignment is the quest for 'heaven on earth,' for 'perfection,' and for 'the beloved community.' This is the central quest of the Religious Society of Friends." ~Mary Klein, Western Friend, July 2021
Today:
1. Read "Testimony of Devotion"
2. Creative visualization
3. Play at the park with chalk

Kwanzaa and Second Day of Christmas

Kwanzaa is a seven-day African-American cultural holiday - an American holiday inspired by African traditions.

This is also the second day of the twelve-day festal tide - a sacred, festive season. In some old traditions, this whole season was seen as a sort of Sabbath: Prepare ahead of time and then spend the Twelve Days doing as little work as possible. It's a good time to rest, reflect, and find peace within.

And it's the Third Quarter Moon now the Moon is waning and light is decreasing again. The Third Quarter Moon energy is yin - quiet, internal, heart-driven, intentional Being-ness. At this phase we can ease off a bit on actively pursuing goals, slow down, go within, and attend to inner work and self-care.

Agenda:
1. Kwanzaa principles
2. Christmas retreat
3. Unity Reading
4. Community goals for 2022
5. Practice unity
6. Map and plan renewal habits
