Grandma Camp

My week has a flow that includes two energetic grandsons.
I need a plan for my grandson days that helps me to flow from one activity to another with little effort, slow down and just BE, in the moment- aware and awake, listening to my intuition, calm and flexible and loving.

This plan needs to touch on all of their priorities: Biking/walking, playing, artwork, eating lunch together, adventures, and clean-up time.

These are the next steps I need to take for my big Flow Project:

Agenda:
1. Summer day flow routine
2. Grandma Camp plans

1. Summer day flow routine:
Our days together begin at about 8:30 or 9 each morning, and they begin softly with breakfast, books, and floor play. My goal this summer is to NOT turn on the TV, but slip in some new magazines, drawing, puzzles or mazes instead.

Transition to the garden: Duck care, planting, sand play, bird-feeders, and so on.

Next, art and nature projects that require attention, such as following ants, making stick caterpillars, painting, sewing, etc.

Clean up, pack up, and go on an outing: The park, library, or other fun field trip. We travel by bike or on the bus.

Lunch time, with cooking projects.

Quiet time: This is a low energy time of the day, so I want to introduce self-guided projects like clay, legos and other building projects.

Then a walk, nap and screen time.

And finally, some home chores and clean-up.

2. Grandma camp:
The theme for my first week is something simple - BUGS.
Ideas:
  • Make a picture scavenger hunt of bug pictures to check off.
  • look for worms and bugs under rocks and logs.
  • Catch a bug in a jar and put magnifier over the top.
  • Follow ants to see where they are going.
  • Read bee and bug books.
  • Make a bug watering hole, and keep it clean.
  • Bug fruit snacks!
  • Make caterpillars from sticks and add eyes.
3. Kid house care routines:
I've got a simple rule for clean-up - if they help, they get to use the toys again; if I clean up alone, the toys go away for a while.

I'd like to establish some other very simple weekly routines for house care:
  • Tuesdays: Water house plants
  • Wednesdays: Duck water
  • Thursdays: Fill bird feeders
  • FridaysDuck water
I'd also like to start doing some daily food preparation activities with the boys:
  • Tuesdays: Make cookies
  • Wednesdays: Shop for fruit and prepare it in a fun way
  • Thursdays: Bake something
  • FridaysGo out to the food carts!
