Tuesday Brainstorm for Love

Tuesday is my receptivity day of the week, when I look at my social and emotional self and make an effort to shift my perspectives around how I view and treat the people in my life.

And this is the time of the waning Third Quarter. Today's moon energy is yang, a time for reciprocity, generosity, collaboration and connection; a final time of action before the next moon cycle.

Agenda:
1.  Evaluation Journal
2. Brainstorm for love
3. Read "How to Deal with Anger"
4. My anger journal
5. Problem solving
6. Expressing Needs in the World
7. Teamwork plans and visuals

1.  Evaluation Journal:
Today I get to reflect back on the first 3/4 of the Chrysanthemum Moon lunar cycle that I'm passing through. My theme has been Synergy and Teamwork.

I begin by looking at the intentions and priorities I set at the new moon:
 I ask myself,
What lessons have I learned in the last weeks? What has been completed and accomplished? What is unfinished? What has shifted? and what can I set aside?

I sit with these queries and write in my journal in a reflective way - my insights, emotions, and the clarity I’ve gained during the last lunar month and how I’ve grown. I m
ake a list of things that need attention.
This reflection will prepare me for moving forward with grace and purpose.

Journal: I have finally settled into an effective flow - I'm accomplishing things with less angst, using an app to stay focused but flexing quite a bit for the realities of life. I've also pulled myself together to be an effective clerk of the Meeting, taking the necessary time to hold all the strings. Thirdly, I've jumped in to an intention to loose weight. Also, finally got the front of the house painted and a lot of home clearing.

Things I have not accomplished / completed:
  • Better understanding about PDA and plans for Drawing with Aldo (but we've made strides in other projects);
  • Watercolors and craftivism
  • A lot of Earthcare Action projects got put on hold (not in my control)
  • IFEK and HK's have been low on my attention.
2. Brainstorm for love:
My ideas for improving my relationships:
  • Continue to care for and nurture my grandsons, and their self-discovery; bring some dependable rituals into their days with us, but also practice being in the moment, releasing the need to control time or focus.
  • Focus on gratitude, appreciation, and abundance
  • Continue to nurture my deepest friendships with monthly moon gatherings, and schedule walks.
  • Be generous with my time; say yes to family and community gatherings.
  • Continue to try to create clarity about "where stuff goes" and my expectations.
  • Continue to work at reframing chaos as a "training ground for my focus and resilience".
3. Read "How to Deal with Anger":
I'm reading this book by Isabel Clarke (2016) that I got at Powell's, because after my last explosion I decided I won't reach equanimity without managing my anger. Part 2 is Tackle: Get to grips with what you need to do to make a change, and Chapter 6 is Using Choice Wisely, about what happens after I have bought myself time to choose how to react.

I think I'll need to review the problem-solving section often, but today I'll move on to Discharging Anger, for when problem-solving is not an option and I can do nothing about the situation.

When I am angry and have realized that I can't do anything about it, I need to choose a way to use all the energy I've gathered into my body: I'm all revved up for no useful reason, so find something useful to do that uses a lot of energy, and will also take my mind off the situation: Gardening, a fast walk, making bread, active house cleaning, like sweeping. Then I just need to go do it, and let go of thinking about what made me angry.

4. My anger journal:
Yesterday I got mad again for an attitude that negates my need for order. I feel like I''m being attacked whenever he moves my things or blocks my spaces. It's not an attack; it's a different set of priorities.

5. Problem Solving:
1. Share my "why" (with no blame): Explain the deeper reason behind what I value. "You've asked me to put my tools away, and so I need clear access to my garden cupboard. When it is used as a dumping ground I feel frustrated by needing to move things."
2. Uncover the Deeper Needs: "We obviously need more room or less stuff - can we work together to find a place for the saw horses?"
3. Practice Compromise and Boundaries. Protect non-negotiable items:
  • Can we get rid of anything else to make room?
  • Can we find a space in the backyard to store the saw horses?
  • Let's also talk about a timeline for moving stuff and what actually needs to be moved before you start the roof project.
6. Expressing Needs in the World:
On Tuesdays I often go through this Ongo practice to define the Needs I want to express:

1. Sit for a couple minutes and then invite the question: "If I knew this was the last week of my life, what is one Need or quality of life I'd like to be or express more fully, for my family or community?"

2. Write the Need, then consider it, and feel the surge of this energy in my body.

3. Invite myself to take one action each day this week to express the energy of this Need, or bring it alive in my relationships. Be sure it's done in the spirit of invitation, not demand, and that it is specific and doable.

4. After doing the action, be sure to take a minute to visualize the happiness or fulfillment I experience, and extend it out to all beings.

The Need that comes to me today is Order. After sitting with the energy, I've listed some ideas for action.
  • Lego order and bringing the craft table inside.
  • Move the old table in, and replace it with the saw horses.
  • Plan a drawing ritual and make a chore chart
7. Teamwork plans and visuals:
Once a week I'd like to consider how to create synergy and embrace teamwork with my teams, and develop trust relationships. Today I will design a plan for how to communicate my vision and expectations for order, and for kid projects, how to seek unity, and what I want to delegate.
  • Order plans: Talk to Wade about my plan, and ask him to respect my spaces and just ask when he can't solve something - we can create order together!
  • Halloween decorations: Let the kids each choose one thing to help me pack away
  • Drawing with Aldo: locate a new sketch book, and start to test pens and draw faces.
  • Make a sample chore chart with possible tasks
