Friday

It's Friday,
with a bit of a break in people time. I have a couple social commitments today, but they are one-on-one and mellow, amidst a week filled with clerking, family gatherings, and a memorial. Today I get to take time in the garden and with my writing and artwork, to sooth my nerves.

Agenda:
1. Read "First Things First"
2. Vision and goals

1. Read "First Things First":
Last Fall I began to review this book by Stephen Covey (1994) that was pivotal in my growth, focusing on section 3: The Synergy of Interdependence. Then this Spring I moved on to section 4: The Power and Peace of Principle-Centered Living.

Today I'm back-tracking to section 2: The Main Thing is to Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing, about how to know what's really important, and how to set priorities and create a flexible framework for decision making.

Chapter 4 is Quadrant 2 Organizing, something I'm pretty expert at. "...this process enables you to translate your personal mission statement into the fabric of your daily life. From the mission to the moment, it empowers you to live with integrity and put first things first in a balanced, principle-centered way."
  1. Step One is to connect with my vision and mission, something I try to do every Friday. Today I will review my Mission Statement, and write a bit about the Big Picture: What's most important, and what gives my life meaning.
  2. Step Two is to identify the categories of my roles - which I define as Renewal, Family and Community,  Home and Sanctuary, Earthcare and Garden, Creativity (Writing and Artwork), Teaching, and Hearthkeeping (my job).
  3. Step Three is to select goals for this week in each role that are important, that will make a significant difference in fulfilling that role.
  4. Step Four is to create a framework for the week, a schedule for my priorities for each day of the week.
2. Vision and Goals:
As I review my Mission Statement (what's most important and what gives my life meaning), and picture my week ahead, I envision the Big Picture - a week of flow with my family in my home, being in unity with the earth, taking steps forward on my projects, and having integrity with my committee responsibilities:
  1. Grandma Camp - loving time with Artie, sewing projects, garden time, outings, and paint play on the theme of fireworks.
  2. Writing my blog and my Nature-Culture book, summer section.
  3. Words-of-Wisdom project - finish one card with my own painted motifs, that can be used for my book and for gifts.
  4. Garden focus on harvest and bird care + start of the Habitat Haven process.
  5. Home focus on cleaning the living room, especially the floors, and on making a plan for the big outdoor projects with a supply list and costs.
  6. Committees - Clerking synergy with my co-clerk and checking in with committees + Earthcare report and Peace and Justice Meeting.
  7. Renewal - Mindful thinking, stress reset, shibashi, and passion project.
