Today is my sabbath, and the start to a new week, and because we are approaching the new moon I will take time today to create a vision of what I want my future to be.
The sabbath is a celebration, a holiday. I keep it holy with my attitude: I don't rush, complain, or worry. Everything I do has a flavor of peace. I schedule some work, but it's work I find fulfilling, or uplifting. Simple is a great word to describe my ideal activities for the sabbath: Simple tasks, simple foods, and an undemanding schedule.
Agenda today:
1. Read "Revolutionary Witchcraft"
2. Soul flight practice
3. Brainstorm for awareness, celebration, and renewal
1. Read "Revolutionary Witchcraft":
I'm reading this sweet little book by Sarah Lyons (2019) that I got from my daughter for Christmas. The subtitle is A Guide to Magical Activism.
Chapter 3 is Dream Big, about cultivating our imagination so we can change the world. "Our reality is formed by 'truths' we take for granted, and these truths are created by power. Whatever your unshakable truths are, they form the basis what you think is possible." She says we need to have a vision of someplace better, a dream of a better reality, then breathe that new reality into being with our power.
The Standing Rock action is an example. It was conducted as a prayer, not a protest; sacred fires were kept burning, songs, processions, and the embodiment of the kind of peace that the people knew was possible was lived day after day.
2. Soul flight practice:
To prepare, choose an animal I'd like to transform into. Put on headphones with shamanic drumming (use it as a timer - 30 to 60 minutes is good), and light a stick of incense.
- Sit in a comfortable position. Then close eyes and meditate.
- When I am centered and calm, bring attention to my body as if looking it from outside. Feel my bones, my muscles- how strong, rigid, tight, or loose they are. Feel my blood pumping and my heart beating. Feel my skin and the sensations of air and clothing on it.
- Push just outside my body to see the power surrounding me. See a little light rise up from near my feet and begin to move up my body. As it moves, see my body transform into the animal I've chosen - take as long as needed.
- Once I've transformed, let out a deep breathe and feel my soul disconnect from my body.
- Take off on these new feet or wings and take a little journey to get used to it. Eventually I can direct myself towards a purpose, but first I need to just practice the process.
- When the drumming ends, picture my body again and let the light scan back over my body from head to toes this time, transforming me back into human form.
- Drink water and eat a snack to ground back into reality.
3. Brainstorm for awareness, celebration, and renewal
