Wednesday Problem-Solving Continued

Wednesday is my day to re-group and re-define my week. First I make a plan for getting over the bump of the mid-week, then I re-envision my emotional tone and perspective.

We are in the Waxing Gibbous moon phase, when I can settle again into the yin of Beingness. Now is a time to reconsider my intentions and make adjustments. I will contemplate the big picture of my life as I practice mindfulness, self-care and trust. It's a time to review and refine, a time to practice Being and trust in the ebb and flow of the universe.

Agenda today:
1. Re-group plan
2. Read "The Achievement Habit"
3. New narrative for problem-solving
4. Problem-solving
5. Writing themes

1. Re-group plan:
Today I will define my top priorities for the week, and make a plan for when to work on them:
  1. House painting: I finished painting both house corners; Today I will start mid-house and work back towards the porch.
  2. Clearing: Yesterday I cleared excess jars; Today I will work at wiping and sorting things in the jar cabinet plus finding new homes for the west fence garden pile; Friday I will sort in the studio cabinet.
  3. Drawing time: Today I will make a plan for engaging Aldo in drawing - talk to Wade about a no TV window, find two pads and start to work at faces; also sort pens.
2. Read "The Achievement Habit":
I'm finishing this book by Bernard Roth (2015), subtitled "Stop Wishing, Start Doing, and Take Command of Your Life". This is a book about "design thinking", applied to achieving goals in your life. It's due, so I'm going to skim and sum up the last chapters:

Chapter 10 is Make Achievement Your Habit. "I take the view that life is basically a problem-solving activity, and you can learn to make both the process and the results better." He goes on to say that problems are good for you, and it works best if you reframe problems as opportunities; as "gifts that provide vehicles for the natural development of our life-giving forces."

He talks about "being the cause in the matter" - meaning taking full responsibility for getting things done; taking charge of your future. "If you're missing opportunities because you're waiting for someone else to act, consider how empowering it is to take responsibility for your own experience."

Next he suggests I go back and practice the exercises one by one - using reasons, projection, saying but, etc. - and problem solve my way to a better me.

3. New narrative for problem-solving:
One of my weekly Creative Perspective tasks is to define a new narrative, today for the habit of problem-solving. I really like the idea that problems are opportunities for developing my life-giving forces.

This week I will shift towards looking eagerly for problems to solve so that I can improve my life.

4. Problem-solving:
With my new goal for "looking eagerly for problems to solve so that I can improve my life", I will begin a new Wednesday habit of defining a problem and beginning to design a possible solution.

Problem #1: Loosing, misplacing, can't find my stuff.
  • Have less stuff.
  • Have a place for each thing.
  • Make better labeling for others to know where stuff goes.
  • Look in to ADHD solutions.
  • Putting things away habit
  • Practice widening my vision to not just the obvious.
5. Writing themes:
I have finally fallen into a steady, daily obsession for my writing project. Today I will set themes and topics for writing and research for the next week:
  • W-Th-F: Honorable Harvest - Preserving food habit (Farmer's Markets) + Save seeds
  • Sat-Sun-M: Bee care integrity / harvest
  • T-W: Darkness
