May First Quarter Moon

Tonight is the First Quarter Moon; we are one-quarter of the way through the moon cycle. The moon is waxing - getting larger - until it's full again. Now is the time to remain flexible, use my obstacles as fuel for growth, and show full effort for priorities.

I use this May quarter moon's energy to create strength. I will remember to exercise, eat well, rest, and get healthy, and also, keep up my mental strength for the things that matter.

Agenda:
1. Read "That Clear and Certain Sound":
2. Journal queries
3. Make a full effort plan
4. Writing themes and passion flow plan:

1. Read "That Clear and Certain Sound":
This book is about truth, clarity, connection, integrity, and being alive, by Pamela Haines, someone whom I adore.

“A bell can’t ring true when it is covered or padded or stuffed. To hear the ring of truth in our lives, it can help to strip down. What clutters our minds? What messages have we taken in – from our childhood, from advertising, from society at large – that muffled the truth?”

Patricia says just identifying that we want to spend time with “that which rings true” is a big step forward: “counting up the minutes that ring true in our lives - just two minutes this day, maybe seven the next - and then reaching for more.”

The goal is to figure out how to create those moments more reliably and dig away at the stuff that muffles them; creating clarity and truth in our lives.

Section 2 is Windows and Reflections. She talks about creating sacred space, an invitation to be fully present and open with others - reaching for the very best within them. "...where are the unformed sacred spaces waiting to be called into being?" How can I be intentional about creating these openings in my life?

2. Journal queries:
Today, at the first quarter moon, I prepare to give full effort to my priorities. My theme is balance and intentionality, which requires me to have equanimity, be present, find clarity, embrace paradox, and allow myself to flow with life’s uncertainty.

I remember that for each opportunity in life there is a challenge. The challenge to balance is obsession. If I am consumed by one part of my life or being, I can’t be centered. Practice gathering ki to be grounded.

What are the creative habits I use to stay mindful and grounded throughout the day?

Where in my life am I stuck and how can I step away from my comfort zone into the movement that creates flow and balance?

What is my inner critic telling me and what is the still small voice advising?

From my journal: This is a REAL transition time for my family, as we bring home our recovering husband/father/grandpa. I need to dig deep for patience, empathy, generosity, and humor. And I need to balance care-taking and self-care-taking, as well as mental, emotional, and physical efforts.

3. Make a full effort plan:
Today I'm making a plan for Care-taking:
  • Sat: Research post-op diet plans; plan recipes and shopping list; request groceries; plan the pick up.
  • Sun: Pick up and settle; try the home-made Insure drink recipe; hard boil some eggs; instigate a schedule of 6-8 small meals, 2-3 hours apart. (Avoid high-fat and fiber); and pill schedule; push liquids between meals.
4. Writing themes and passion flow plan:
The next few days are the best block of time I have for healthy obsession for my writing project. Today I will set themes and topics for writing, research, and also some garden, advocacy, and community tasks to support that Nature-Culture flow through the next week.

My Nature-Culture theme this month is mid-spring hope and awareness.
  • Sun: Meet the Western Tiger Swallowtail
  • M: N-C blog - How the 4 ideas fit together
  • T: Edits and post
  • W: Bonus idea is Hope
  • Th: Edits and post
  • Sat: Sanctuary: Caterpillar life cycle and sanctuary
  • Sun: Awareness: Know your caterpillar neighbors
