Wednesday is my day to re-group and re-define my week. First I make a plan for getting over the bump of the mid-week, then I re-envision my emotional tone and perspective.
This week I'm feeling pressured to get ready for visitors - what are the priorities?
Agenda today:
1. My bump plan
2. Read "The Achievement Habit"
3. Beingness routines
4. New narrative for attention
5. Writing themes and passion plan
1. My bump plan:
Ideas:
- Eat a high-protein breakfast for a sharper focus: Yogurt and raspberries!
- Mid-week priority catch up: This week - Veggie garden
- Clear some clutter to free mental space: Potting shed
- Easy evening meal or dinner out: Leftovers?
2. Read "The Achievement Habit":
I'm reading from this book by Bernard Roth (2015), subtitled "Stop Wishing, Start Doing, and Take Command of Your Life". This is a book about "design thinking", applied to achieving goals in your life.Chapter 5 is Doing is Everything, about the difference between trying and doing (which I've always thought is hair splitting). Yes - "Doing takes intention and attention," but so does trying, in my opinion.
It seems like the difference in the writer's mind is how quickly you act; being impulsive is good - don't think about it too much, just act. Then it becomes an ethical exercise - the only barrier being my moral boundaries. But the problem with this approach is that spontaneity and impulsivity get you mixed results at best. Slow, researched action is sometimes better!
3. Beingness routine:
To counteract all this talk of DOING, I'll renew and refine my Beingness routine.
Beingness is the fundamental quality of existence, simply being rather than doing or having. The trick is to be aware of my beingness, my essence, with a deep presence, which I will feel as peace, aliveness, or inherent worth.
My script for afternoon Beingness, beginning just after my nap:
- Gather a glass of water and a yellow pad and pen.
- Drink water slowly.
- As I drink, pay attention to the Me inside the chaos of noise in my head - write down something I value about myself.
- Say the mantra: Being Me: Mindful, loving, and present. Write down what I want to pay attention to.
- List 5-Things to do now to feel prepared and calm.
3. New narrative for attention:
One of my weekly Creative Perspective tasks is to define a new narrative, today for the habit of attention. I've been wanting to have a plan for popping myself out of an afternoon daze, put the phone down, and give attention to something or someone.
I will STOP zoning out, choose something to pay attention to, and Do IT.
5. Writing themes and passion flow plan:
The next few days are the best block of time I have for healthy obsession for my writing project. Last week I made a plan for the summer, and I'm already behind, but that's okay - I want to get it right!
Today I will set themes and topics for writing and research:
- Th: How to help hot wildlife (Sanctuary) - Edits and post.
- F: My carbon footprint - being humble (natural living)
- Sat: My carbon footprint
- Sun: Edits and post.
- M: Climate change activism 101 (reciprocity)
- T: Edits and post.
- W: Eugene Clean Energy Fund
